On 9th July 2019, when I was 62, I was bored and looking for something to fill my time. My wife Catherine suggested I pick up one of her paint brushes and have a go at painting. For the first time since I was a boy at school, I picked up a brush, gathered some acrylic paints and started by painting a couple of tomatoes.
Catherine was mildly surprised, as was I, that they seemed to resemble the bright red fruit I had on the table in front of me.
I moved on to butterflies, figs, pears, even a house, and began to really enjoy the experience. With each piece, I received a little more praise and encouragement from family and friends. Covid-19 ironically provided me with much more time than I would normally have had, and I threw myself into this new passion, which for me, is like a form of meditation. I have been amazed and delighted, a few years down the track, that people continue to enjoy my art. I hope to be doing this for the rest of my days.
